It's that time of year again -- summer -- when the weather/climate charlatans try to scare us into believing that because we are having the annual heat wave, global warming is real and the world will surely end by next summer (by which time you'll have forgotten this summer). During this time you get headlines no less ludicrous than the title of this article from self-promoting fake meteorologists and climate scientists -- charlatans for short (look up its definition) -- like Jeff Masters and Bob Henson of Weather Underground (named in honor of a terrorist group) and James Hansen and Gavin Schmidt of NASA GISS (named because they were supposed to do space studies, not climate), where I (Dr. Duane Thresher) used to be a very qualified climate scientist doing climate modeling on supercomputers.

Fake Climatologists: Weather Underground

Weather Underground is the most popular online weather service and one of the most visited websites. They thus have a lot of influence in educating the public about weather-related topics like global warming. Unfortunately they are rabid global warming alarmists. They often have ludicrous stories like the recent "February 2018: Earth's 11th Warmest February on Record". The 11th warmest February, gosh, I'm convinced, global warming must be real. To make it much worse, those at Weather Underground are not only not climatologists, they are not even real meteorologists. This of course explains why they are so often wrong about the weather forecast, as most will undoubtably be painfully aware. Recently, on Real Climatologists's Twitter site I (Dr. Duane Thresher) called out Weather Underground on the preceding and more and they responded. What follows is the tweet history with commentary.

Hypocrisy, Thy Name Is AGU

It's that time of year again. The American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting is December 11 - 15. Unlike previous years when it was in San Francisco, this year it is in New Orleans. When we (Dr. Duane Thresher and Dr. Claudia Kubatzki) used to go, it was always in San Francisco.

New Orleans is actually an appropriate choice. It is a BIG oil city, with lots of oil drilling (in the Gulf), refining, shipping (e.g., tankers), and corporate offices. When my woman officemate at NASA GISS married another Columbia University DEES (Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences) grad student, he got a job with an oil company and they moved to New Orleans.

Why would big oil make New Orleans appropriate for AGU? Because AGU and its scientists take so much money from oil companies. That is as it should be. Much of geophysics was developed for finding oil. Oil companies practically built AGU -- and modern society -- by themselves. The new politically correct, climate change warrior AGU though, pretends to hate oil companies with a lot of public condemnation, but then officially and quietly decides to "engage the oil companies over the long term" (i.e., "we are never going to give up the oil money") and continue to take their money. Hypocrisy, thy name is AGU.

We started writing this article before the German elections in September, which included Angela Merkel for Chancellor. At the end of the article we gave advice to the German voters. To paraphrase German "climatologist" Stefan Rahmstorf in his open letter on RealClimate.com (which he founded with the rest of the climate Gestapo, Gavin Schmidt and Michael Mann) to the US voters in the last election, we said, "Dear German voters, don't make a choice that your children will regret".

Angela Merkel actually won the election -- many Germans are still terrified to look like Nazis if they vote even a little to the right of her -- but for the first time in modern history an elected Chancellor can't form a government (the Germans are not even sure how to handle the situation); no other party wants to work with her now. That's almost as bad as losing. There may even be another election because of it, which will hurt Merkel even more.

Defund the NSF, the "Science" Arm of the Left

The NSF, the National Science Foundation, is one of the largest funders of global warming research. It is a US government agency, so subject to FOIA (Freedom Of Information Act) requests, and funds NCAR, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, which is one of the largest global warming research institutes and whose climate model I (Dr. Duane Thresher) have worked on.

The Weinstein of Climate Science has been funded by the NSF for decades. They've probably given him millions over the years. I got to thinking about the NSF while I was filing FOIA requests with them about his sexual harassment.

I remembered the NSF TV commercials from the 1980's: "our strength is in our diversity". Even then, before I was in science, I thought it odd that the NSF should run such clearly non-science TV commercials. They may have been public service announcements but they cost the taxpayer plenty somewhere along the way.

Pay us! Calm down. That's a joke.) And you'll note RealClimatologists.org has no place to make donations, although some of you have kindly offered.

In fact, RealClimatologists.org costs significant time, and thus money, from my (Dr. Duane Thresher) IT business providing "secure custom information technology services and consulting for select clients" (if only Hillary had had the brains to hire deplorable me, she would have been elected).

About our last article, Bridenstine, Climate Scientists Are Not Noble, Stop Paying Them. We contacted Representative Jim Bridenstine and offered him our support in his Senate confirmation hearings to be NASA Administrator, which will be tough because of his global warming skepticism. We are worried he is going to back down on his skepticism in order to get the job. That would be a mistake -- it will diminish his authority even before he starts -- and not befitting a pilot who has the right stuff to be catapulted off an aircraft carrier (and who better to be Administrator of the National AERONAUTICS and Space Administration?).

We also contacted Senator Ted Cruz, who has supported Bridenstine. We were delighted to see some of the statements Cruz has made about global warming:

[In a case of synchronicity, I wrote this article on September 1 in preparation for publication after I came back from a week of no-climate-news vacation. The article calls for the defunding of the climate change institute NASA GISS where I was a climate scientist for 7 years. Back yesterday, I was reading climate news and saw the nomination by President Trump on September 1 of Jim Bridenstine to be Administrator of NASA. Bridenstine is a global warming skeptic who wants to cut global warming research funding. Go Jim and if you need help let me know. In particular, I instigated a NASA OIG investigation of Gavin Schmidt, current head of NASA GISS anointed by previous head James Hansen, for violation of the Federal Records Act and the Hatch Act.]

No, I'm Not Sorry, Allison Wing

Some readers may think I was unfair to Allison Wing making fun of -- actually roll on the floor laughing at -- her global warming/hurricane increase comment in my article yesterday Hurricane Harvey Proves Global Warming Increases Lifespans.

Not at all. That comment was from a Columbia University Add Your Story webpage. Wing had full control over the content and whether it was even there. Months before I mentioned it, I "Flagged story as inappropriate" and pointed out how ridiculous it was and how bad it made Columbia look, signing with my full credentials, including being a Columbia alum. And there the comment remained. Wing apparently couldn't be more proud of it. (Speaking of which, Wing is a professor at Florida State University now.)

Hurricane Harvey Proves Global Warming Increases Lifespans

First, I (Dr. Duane Thresher) do not make light of the deaths and damage Hurricane Harvey has caused. I know all too well the devastating deadly power of hurricanes. I lived for several years on Okinawa, a small Japanese island infamous from WWII. There they have typhoons, which in general are worse than hurricanes. I saw first hand this devastating deadly power.

But hurricanes have always been devastating and deadly, especially in the Gulf of Mexico. Let's take the quintessential example, the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900. (By the way, from what I saw in my work with tree rings, 1900 was one of the hottest years ever in the West.) 6,000 to 12,000 dead -- it was so bad they couldn't accurately count -- and over 3,600 homes destroyed.

My wife, Dr. Claudia Kubatzki, is a native German and I lived in Germany for several years. Germans are so afraid of even mentioning Nazis in public they won't call out obvious Nazi behavior when they see it. This allows megalomaniacs like Stefan Rahmstorf to thrive. In America, Nazi references have been used to the point of meaninglessness by leftists, which includes climate change warriors. Ironically, leftists are the ones who actually behave like Nazis. Remember: fascism is not an ideology, it is a method any ideology can use. We use Nazi references, whether it offends anyone or not, including Google, to meaningfully point out this Nazi behavior everywhere, which is the only way to stop those who behave like Nazis.]

AGU's "Climate Change: Believe It Or Else" Prize

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) has lots of prizes; they are very fond of congratulating themselves.

One of these is the Climate Communication Prize, which is in recognition for the "communication of climate science", including "clarity of message and efforts to foster respect and understanding of science-based values". This was initially funded by Nature's Own, a company which wrenches fossils and minerals from the earth to sell to tourists.

Gavin Schmidt, current head of NASA GISS and leading climate change warrior scientist/spokesperson, won the debut prize in 2011. Interestingly, this was just after Schmidt was involved in Climategate, which showed that he wasn't so interested in communicating ALL of climate science, just those parts that were ideologically acceptable. Discussions between government-funded climate scientists were -- despite laws to the contrary -- not to be communicated to the public because the public was too stupid to understand them. Schmidt continues to scheme to keep this secrecy, again, despite laws to the contrary.

Believe it or ... believe it, in my last article Google, Columbia, NASA, Germany Censor Real Climatologists' Emails I may not have been conspiracy-minded enough. (Yeah, yeah, I hate conspiracy theories too, but sometimes they really do happen.)

I had assumed that my Heil KlimaFuehrer Rahmstorf! article announcement emails were being censored because they were going to Germany. So I thought when I announced my censorship article I could still as usual do it using my Google-run Columbia University email account, if I only sent the email to non-German addresses, like those of major science news outlets.

Gavin Schmidt is the current head of NASA GISS and the leading climate change warrior scientist/spokesperson. Hillary Clinton of course is the disgraced former Secretary of State and presidential loser. Lois Lerner is the disgraced former IRS official who illegally targeted conservative groups for audits. Lisa Jackson is the disgraced former EPA Administrator who seemed to take direction from climate change warrior lobbyists.

Is Global Warming Really A Fraud?

I (Dr. Duane Thresher) was a climate scientist but over the last few years I have often seriously thought of becoming a lawyer. Say what you want about lawyers but they can often quickly cut through all the nonsense and get to the crux of the matter. I saw this up close when my wife, Dr. Claudia Kubatzki, also an accomplished climate scientist, tried to get a paper retracted that had been fraudulently published with her name on it. From Herzschuh et al. in her Selected Publications at About Us:

"After at least 4 rejections and deciding the paper had no scientific value worth publishing, and quitting working for Gerrit Lohmann at the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) due to his abusive behavior, I was horrified to discover 3 years after I quit climate science that the paper had been published with my name on it. As determined by the publisher lawyer, during a standard sloppy peer review Lohmann fabricated my required submission signature, the required revisions on my part of the paper (of which he had no expertise, making the paper scientifically invalid), and my responses to the peer reviewers. After harassment by Lohmann, aided by the journal (particularly chief editor David Currie of the University of Ottowa), of me, my husband, my current and former bosses, and my husband's current boss, I was finally able to get the paper retracted. Fraudulently, Lohmann and John Birks (University of Bergen) continued to list this paper in their publications without the required 'Retraction' in the title."

You Can't Talk Around Chaos

When most climate scientists, who have little understanding of chaos, are even willing to mention chaos they talk about climate being on an "attractor", which is the shape in phase space (climate variables being the coordinates of this many-dimensional space) of where the climate can be. They then say that while they may not be able to predict exactly where on the attractor the climate is, which is actually the weather, the attractor will give the bounds of this weather, which is the climate. Thus they say that while weather is unpredictable more than 10 days into the future, climate is not.

So, you keep hearing about the Paris Climate Agreement but still don't know anything about it? That's OK. There's a lot of hot air but not really much to know.

Ostensibly the agreement is about countries reducing their carbon emissions to fight global warming. But the most important thing to know is that the only agreement in the Paris Climate Agreement -- by both climate change warriors and global warming skeptics -- is that it will have little, if any, effect on global warming.

Skeptics, of course, say this because there might not be any global warming to have an effect on.

After that Gore was desperate to be taken seriously but wondered how. Science was his solution. And “global warming” (see terminology note at bottom) was a hot topic at the time (no pun intended). It didn’t matter that he did badly in the two “science for poets” courses he took in college or that he didn’t even take any math courses there.

As the father of a daughter I fully understand and appreciate your wanting to listen to advice from your daughter Ivanka. However, I am an extremely qualified climate scientist and on the important issue of global warming (or climate change as she has been taught to call it) she is wrong. This is not her fault. Thanks to you she is well-educated but even the best educational institutions these days have inculcated their students with the extraordinary popular delusion of climate change. I know this from my own alma maters of MIT and Columbia.

Climate treaties like the Paris Agreement have little to do with climate. They are about economic competition. As the greatest economy in the history of the world, other countries will do anything to cripple the United States. Countries like China will agree to anything in these treaties and simply ignore their obligations while demanding the United States fulfill theirs.
